Physical inactivity has an array of harmful health effects and has been described as the major public health problem of our time. There is a linear relationship between physical activity and health status, with those maintaining an active lifestyle generally being healthier and living longer. Increasing physical activity has the potential to prevent and/or treat most of the major diseases of modern society, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer and depression.

Learning outcomes
