This annual day conference in Women’s Mental Health aims to upskill general practitioners to work effectively and sensitively with women experiencing mental ill-health, addressing the impact of hormonal changes, trauma and environmental considerations using a bio-psycho-social approach.

Relevance to General Practice

Participation in the conference will provide participants with greater confidence in their ability to work with women who have mental health issues across the lifespan. This program will draw on the experience of the Women’s Mental Health Division in the assessment and treatment with gender appropriate guidelines.

  • Discuss the connection between women’s mental health and gonadal hormones including polycystic ovarian syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder/ premenstrual s
  • Use the relevant safety data as a guide for prescribing psychotropic medications during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
  • Assess and manage Borderline Personality Disorder and/or Complex Trauma Disorder (CTD) including relapses.
  • Evaluate and manage patient requests for cosmetic procedures when underlying psychological issues are present and evaluate and manage eating disorders.
  • Discuss the management of a perimenopausal woman with vasomotor symptoms, depressive or anxiety symptoms as well as memory concerns.
