162604 - Behind the Clinic Door

  • : Online

Behind the Clinic Door is a cross-specialty discussion on gold standard care of common musculoskeletal conditions

Relevance to General Practice

Within Australia, musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are the 8th and 9th most common presenting complaints to Australian General Practitioners (i.e. arthritis and back complaints). Developing high quality skills in the assessment and management of common musculoskeletal conditions has been highlighted as critically important within the RACGP Curriculum for Australian General Practice (2016).

Unfortunately, presentations of chronic musculoskeletal conditions are expected to soar by ~43% over the next two decades within Australia. This increased burden will require general practitioners with high levels of knowledge and clinical skills for the appropriate assessment and management of these conditions.

Learning outcomes
  • Advance and refine current skills in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions including neck, shoulder and knee
  • Identify the different management steps that occur 'Behind the Clinic Door' when a patient is referred to other health practitioners
  • Identify, discuss and analyse the pathway of care a patient follows during the course of their illness
  • Outline a colleague's needs when a patient is referred
