164524 - New Management Options for Acute Orthopaedic Conditions

  • : Online

This session will provide and updated information on the orthopaedics services available at the Lyell McEwin Hospital including triage, wait-list management and substitution clinics. The presenters will also discuss new management options for acute orthopaedic conditions after trauma and how GPs and orthopaedic surgeons can work together to manage minor traumas.

Relevance to General Practice

As first point-of-contact, general practitioners see the widest range of conditions of any specialty and this has consequences for continuing medical education. GPs need to know a lot about the conditions they see daily or weekly. GPs are also required to have updated skills and knowledge from time to time on the new advances in treatment & management and services available in their local health networks for further referrals to provide better patient care.

Learning outcomes

  • Outline orthopaedics services and substitution clinics available at the Lyell McEwin Hospital.
  • Explain triage and wait list management.
  • Discuss acute orthopaedic conditions after trauma and summarise new management options.
  • Discuss how to manage minor traumas in GP setting working together with the orthopaedic surgeons.
