The aim of this activity is to assist GP's in the assessment and treatment of acute foot and ankle injuries. This workshop will identify patients with unstable injuries and patients requiring surgical management.

Relevance to General Practice

Foot and ankle injuries are common presentations in general practice. 
In Australia, foot and ankle injuries are one of the highest in the world due to the amount of sports played. 
A clear understanding of foot and ankle injuries will aid GP's in determining the patient that will benefit from surgical management.

Learning outcomes
  • Evaluate common knee, foot and ankle injuries
  • Apply early management of injuries to improve outcome
  • Request and interpret relevant medical imaging, including indications for x-ray, ultrasound and MRI
  • Coordinate treatment with allied health professionals including physiotherapy and orthotist
  • Detect indications for surgical treatment and referral to orthopaedic surgeon
