Relevance to General Practice

Jean Hailes conducts ongoing assessment of health professional learning needs. Endometriosis is a debilitating condition is exacerbated by a delayed period of diagnosis of 6.7 years from onset to diagnosis, and up to 8.3 years for surgical diagnosis, with a strong correlation between delayed diagnosis and more severe symptomatology. In addition, women affected report higher levels of psychological symptoms such as depression and anxiety. This condition and its management is of great relevance to general practice and aims to increase awareness of the condition, promote best practice diagnostic requirements and management options.
