184633 - Introduction to Point of Care Ultrasound for GPs

  • : Online

The aim of this workshop is to provide GPs with hands-on experience of several introductory sonographic procedures and begin to consider the potential uses of ultrasound in general practice.

Relevance to General Practice

Point of care ultrasound is increasingly being used in general practice because it is a life saving, non-invasive, cost-effective technology. There are a number of benefits of GPs providing ultrasound in general practice including considerable time and cost savings, reduced number of secondary referrals, and providing peace of mind to patients with prompt diagnosis and immediate treatment. These benefits are amplified in regional, rural and remote areas where availability of radiological services can lead to longer wait times, higher costs and longer travel times associated with referrals to ultrasound.
