How to Treat quiz: Asthma in children part two: management

Relevance to General Practice

The goals of treatment are asthma symptom control, no exacerbations (ideally) and normalisation of lung function. In children who are too young to do perform spirometry reliably, and where the diagnosis of asthma depends on a trial of treatment response, it is very important to establish these goals with the family and child. Consider whether referral to a paediatric respiratory physician is indicated.
