186455 - Emergency Trauma Management

  • : Online

3-day face-to-face course that teaches acute trauma assessment and management from the Emergency Medicine perspective. Teaching methods include short focused lectures, small group interactive sessions, hands-on procedure workshops and scenarios/simulation.

Relevance to General Practice

As per Standard T.17 in Standards for General Practice Education and Training Trainers and Training Posts 2005, assessment of trauma is a required area of competency in GP training, and as per Criterion 1.3.2.1 in RACGP Vocational training standards (2013), recognition and management of acute and life threatening emergencies including early management of trauma is a core competency in GP training and is described as “vital” to GP Registrar training. The RACGP Curriculum for Australian General Practice 2011 also describes in detail (across all 5 domains of General Practice) the necessity for GP's to maintain skills in trauma management. Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice has Emergency Medicine pre-requisites, including completion of at least two relevant emergency short courses.
