This online learning program aims to provide practitioners with comprehensive knowledge about screening and testing for STIs, and managing them in general practice, particularly in Western Australia.

Relevance to General Practice

STIs are a commonly managed problem in general practice, and the majority of STI management in Australia is performed by GPs. STI management is a core skill with the general practice curriculum.

Learning outcomes
  • Describe the epidemiological trends, clinical presentation, differential diagnosis and management of common sexually transmissible infections (STIs).
  • Recommend an appropriate approach to examination and testing upon presentation of common STI syndromes
  • Outline contact tracing and notification procedures for notifiable STIs in Western Australia.
  • Identify issues to discuss with patients in relation to the diagnosis of STIs.
  • Select useful resources for patients and clinical staff in the management of STIs.
