191121 - Safe Effective and Efficient Registrar In Consultation Supervision

  • : Online

This workshop aims to increase GP supervisers skills in offering safe effective and efficient in consultation supervision for GP Registrars.

Relevance to General Practice

As outlined in the Needs Assessment:
The pace and pressure of general practice work has a powerful influence on help-seeking decisions and interactions, especially those which take place during consultations, rather than at more convenient times. Typically, training practices go to great efforts to encourage help-seeking by Term 1 registrars, at least for the first month or two of training. However, beyond this period, these efforts are not sustainable, and this may result in an under-utilisation of in-consultation help-seeking later in training, and in particular the infrequent use of help provision strategies which involve the supervisor leaving their own consultations to come in to the registrar’s consulting room with the patient. These strategies are particularly disruptive, but also provide unique and powerful learning opportunities and opportunities to evaluate registrar skills and knowledge. It is important for training practices to negotiate an appropriate balance and mix of
