191938 - Immunisation update

  • : Online

To describe the current National Immunisation Program, explore recent and proposed changes to the vaccination schedule, including the 2020 influenza vaccine program, recommendations for adult Pneumococcal vaccinations and other important immunisation updates.

Relevance to General Practice

GPs can provide parents [and patients] with reliable, evidence-based information regarding immunisations (Chair of RACGP Victoria Dr Cameron Loy RACGP News November 2017). ‘Patients trust their doctors to give them accurate information. After speaking with their doctor, no parent should be confused about the evidence base for vaccinating their children or the public interest in doing so,’ (Dr Anne Tonkin, Medical Board of Australia Chair APHRA news May 2019)
In order to be the trusted advisor regarding the benefits (and risks) of immunisation GPs must be up to date with the latest schedules and messaging for immunisation.
