How to Treat quiz: Gaming disorder

Relevance to General Practice

A whole generation of electronic games has been developed for online use. They are increasingly sophisticated and have revolutionised how many young people, particularly young men, spend their leisure time and engage with each other. Many spend hours each day playing online games, and this can lead to addiction which has many similarities with what occurs with psychoactive substances. Gaming Disorder has now been recognised by the WHO and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) as a clinical syndrome with significant capacity to cause ongoing harm.
