192323 - Hand and Upper Limb: Ulnar-sided wrist pain

  • : Online

REDIMED's Hand and Upper Limb education series aims to provide General Practitioners an increased capacity to perform a complete history and physical examination of the hand and wrist. Utilising these skills in their practice, General Practitioners will be able to provide timely diagnosis and treatment options to their patients who have suffered an hand and upper limb injury.

Relevance to General Practice

Hand injuries are very common, finger and hand injuries are the most prevalent type of work related injury in Australia. Many of these hand injuries’, when not severe are managed by General Practitioners. This was identified in the most recent publication from Safe Work Australia (Australian Safety and Compensation Council, 2008).

Therefore, an understanding of the principles that are unique to the management of hand injuries, such as reduced periods of immobilisation and the invaluable role of hand therapists, will help ensure that optimal healing and function is achieved (Eddy, Australian Family Physician, 2012).
