194065 - Pain Education: Rethink, Re-engage and Recover

  • : Online

Update Murrumbidgee Region GPs on the current pain neuroscience research. Includes pain biology and a focus on biopsychosocial assessment and management of pain. The aim is that every health practitioner attending will have an understanding of the science underpinning the production of pain, and thus will be able to more effectively educate their patients, as well as having a better understanding of the need for multidisciplinary care.

Relevance to General Practice

The Murrumbidgee area is identified as having a lack of specialist support services for persistent pain. Despite ongoing research in effective care, translation of learning on persistent pain to general practice is slow and there is not currently a local clinic able to see the large numbers of patients experiencing persistent pain. This activity aims to take the emphasis off passive or specialist services and rather focus on effective translation of new pain science to the primary care practitioner, so that GPs in the Murrumbidgee region are equipped to deliver pain education to patients.
