2020 eTalk #8 - Addressing pelvic floor support and function in strength training

  • : Online

While we understand that strength training is important for overall health, and with the increase in females participating in heavy and strenuous weightlifting exercise, research and information is lacking on where and how pelvic floor health (or dysfunction) fit into this type of activity.

This session will focus on what research we have to date on pelvic floor health in females who lift heavy weight, as well as a discussion around practical tips we can implement to help with pelvic floor support during strength training.

Presenter

Lori Forner, APAM is a private practice physiotherapist working in the field of pelvic health. Her clinical interests include complex pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction in exercise, particularly in women who lift heavy weight. Along with loving the time she spends with her family, she produces and hosts The Pelvic Health Podcast, is an invited conference speaker and casual lecturer at The University of Queensland, and is currently working on her PhD at The University of Queensland looking at the effects of weightlifting on pelvic organ support and the role support pessaries may play.
