AOGPs interactive paediatric learning modules have been designed to provide GPs a comprehensive understanding of a broad range of common health problems and how to effectively communicate with patients and their families. These online modules provide a range of readings, resources and interactive quizzing to develop skills and knowledge across these common acute health issues:
AOGP Paediatrics Program 1:
• The first 8 weeks
• Rashes in children
• Paediatric fever
• The limping child
Relevance to General Practice
Children constitute 13% of a GPs visits (Bayram et al 2015). It is essential for GPs to be competent and confident in identifying a broad range of paediatric conditions. In order to successfully manage these consultations, a GP also needs to be skilled in communicating and involving family members and young people and addressing their concerns.
The training modules which constitute the AOGP Paediatric Programs covers acute paediatric health problems and communication skills and will assist a GP build their knowledge and proficiencies in this important area of medicine.
The training is delivered through AOGPs online learning platform. Each is designed to take a GP through an interactive learning session with tutorials, quizzes, video clips, questionnaires and supporting resources to create a quality, guided training session designed to increase the skills and competencies of a GP to best manage children and young people in practice.
- 1. Apply systematic approach to the evaluation of children in common and acute presentations including performing 2 and 6 week checks
- 2. Describe the key clinical features in pattern recognition of skin rashes and manage common red and scaly rashes in children.
- 3. Demonstrate a thorough assessment and based on assessment perform immediate or urgent management of a child who has fever
