Relevance to General Practice

There are approximately 25,000 people living with HIV in Australia with about 1000 new infections per year. Improvements in antiretroviral therapy have led to increasing life expectancy and quality of life among People Living with HIV (PLHIV). As this population ages, general practitioners increasingly play an important role in managing co-morbidities and complex care in ageing.

  • Apply the latest clinical information about antiretroviral therapy to clinical practice
  • Develop appropriate treatment plans for complex cases
  • Develop an effective plan for ongoing monitoring including identifying appropriate treatment changes as necessary
