85746 - How to Treat quiz: Otitis media

  • : Online
Relevance to General Practice

Otitis media is among the most common reasons for children to present to primary care practitioners, contributing significantly to healthcare costs. Otitis media is largely self-limiting and resolves spontaneously but can result in potentially life-threatening complications. The chronic manifestations of resulting hearing loss can cause behavioural and developmental delays that have been shown to persist into later life. Be vigilant in excluding the complications associated with otitis media and if there is suspicion of these, refer for specialist attention.
