87531 - Emergency department presentations-How can we reduce wait times in the ED?

  • : Online

Part of annual GP seminar series focusing on common ED presentations to Mercy Hospital for Women with presentaions from GP Consultant and Obstetricians

Relevance to General Practice

After hours services in general practice are high on the agenda of national health reform and support from local hospital services essential to primary health care providers to understand supports available when providing after hours care and caring for antenatal and post natal women

As MHW provide service for some 40-50 women a day in our ED many referred by primary care GPs, improving understanding of MHW services for them will be beneficial for the local community and provision of continuity of care.

Share maternity care affiliate GPs (~ 800 across the six hospital sites of the shared maternity care collaborative ie Mercy Hospital for Women Werribee Mercy, the Womens Carlton and Sandringham, Western Health and the Northern) who form a significant part of the shared maternity model, also have a requirement to maintain CPD in pregnancy related activities for their ongoing credentialing which this offers

Learning outcomes
  • To outline common causes and management for pain and bleeding in early pregnancy
  • To outline management of abnormal screening results and other medical presentations in pregnancy
  • To list services available at MHW , how to access these and expedite referrals
  • To list causes for presentations with pelvic pain and menorrhagia and outline which presentations are best managed by referral to the emergency department
