88120 - REFRAME OSTEOPOROSIS CLINCAL AUDIT

  • : Online

Prospective Clinical Audit targeting patients in general practice, who are at risk of osteoporosis who have never been assessed or treated for this condition.

Relevance to General Practice

Osteoporotic fractures are associated with significant morbidity and excess mortality. In 2012, over 22,000 hip fractures and another 117,000 non-hip fragility fractures occurred in Australia alone, However, despite the wide availability of reliable diagnostics as well as safe, highly effective and inexpensive medical treatments, 70-80% of patients with osteoporotic fractures are not being adequately diagnosed and treated.

In this ageing population, General Practitioners are the frontline managers of osteoporosis, with patients at risk, a significant make up of their patient database, thus the relevance of this audit is extremely high.

Learning outcomes
