89220 - Pulmonary rehabilitation and physical activity

  • : Online
Relevance to General Practice

COPD is a common chronic condition in Australia with a peak prevalence expected to occur by 2020. GPs are increasingly involved in the diagnosis and ongoing management of COPD. It is recognised as one of the leading causes of potentially preventable hospital admissions. 1 in 7 people aged over 40 years have COPD and half of the people experiencing symptoms currently don't have a confirmed diagnosis. Many people with COPD become inactive in daily life in an attempt to limit their symptoms of breathlessness and fatigue. Following pulmonary rehabilitation, most people are able to do more and feel less breathless. Other benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation included improvements in quality of life and decreased hospitalisations. This module provides an overview of pulmonary rehabilitation and physical activity.
