The one day ALS program requires completion of online content which will provide the GP with an opportunity to undertake a program which will assist in the achievement of ALS competency.Relevance to General Practice
Patients requiring BLS and ALS commonly have underlying problems including: ischaemic heart disease, chronic respiratory disease, drug overdose / toxicity…” i.e. presentations seen by GP’s on a regular basis in their practice. As part of their role, the GP may be required to initiate and maintain ALS measures.

To ensure currency of practice, regular training and education in Advanced Life Support techniques and theory is required. The Advanced Life Support Program covers the core principles of cardio-respiratory arrest management in the remote context and is based on the ARC guidelines. The application of the knowledge and skills need to be applied within the context of the policies of the employing health service.
