This presentation provides education on the role of surgery in the management of obesity.

Relevance to General Practice

Obesity is a global health problem, and the prevalence of obesity increasing in Australia, with data from 2014-15 ABS showing 28% of the population (4.9 million people) classified as obese. Being overweight or obese increases a person's risk of developing long-term health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes. As such, it is essential that GPs have an understanding of strategies to address this issue.
