97883 - Rural and Remote Emergency Medicine Day 1

  • : Online

The main objective for this workshop is to provide rural & remote emergency doctors and nurses with team-based learning opportunities to recognise and manage patients who attend with remote emergency medicine presentations including trauma, sepsis & snakebite. The workshop also aims to improve skills in recognising the deteriorating patient, emergency intubation, ventilation, ECG and ABG analysis. It will use workshops & lectures to enhance clinical knowledge, procedural skills and confidence in utilizing local equipment & resources.

Relevance to General Practice

The great southern is a rural location where GPs at the local hospitals have to recognize and manage appropriately emergency medicine presentations such as trauma emergencies, sepsis and poisonings. The GPs/DMO have to liaise with tertiary hospitals to plan management and transfer. Care of these patients requires multidisciplinary team based assessment and management by medical and nursing staff with diverse skills. Simulation training can assist in developing team-based skills. This management may require use of invasive & non- ventilation. Emergency intubation and ICU level management until transfer is undertaken by the GPs is also required. This requires emergency procedural skills, some of which are only practiced rarely.
