Haematology and dermatology
This session will cover acute and chronic haematological disease in pregnancy including preconception care, pregnancy-related physiology and maternal health during pregnancy and postpartum. This session will focus on the haematological and dermatological changes seen during pregnancy.

At the end of this session, you should be able to:

• explain the normal physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and how this correlates to symptoms, signs and results
• know the important considerations of preconception care and how chronic disease can impact a healthy pregnancy including:
  • sickle cell disease and crisis management
• develop a systematic approach to diagnosing and investigating acute medical problems that may develop during pregnancy or postpartum
• recognise the simple features and have the basic knowledge of how to treat and escalate the care of a pregnant woman affected by:
  • anaemia
  • skin changes and conditions seen during pregnancy
