This session covers liver disease in pregnancy including preconception care and maternal health during pregnancy and postpartum.
At the end of this session, you should be able to:
- explain the normal physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and how this correlates to symptoms, signs and results
- understand the important considerations of preconception care and how this can impact on a healthy pregnancy; in the context of liver disease this includes hepatitis B and C
- develop a systematic approach to acute problems that may develop during pregnancy or postpartum
- recognise the features and symptoms of concern in a pregnant woman in the context of liver disease to develop the basic knowledge of how to treat and escalate a woman, as appropriate:
- intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy
- acute fatty liver of pregnancy
- HELLP syndrome
