Adolescent Gynaecology

This session will cover gynaecological symptoms including normal and abnormal menstruation.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Distinguish between normal and abnormal menstruation
- Arrange initial appropriate investigations
- Prescribe and monitor simple treatments
- Identify when to refer for specialised gynaecological input
Gynaecological symptoms are extremely common, particularly disorders of menstruation. Serious pathology is rare but symptoms can cause distress and discomfort and may be eased with appropriate investigation and intervention. Adolescents with long-term medical conditions may find that their condition, or its treatment, impacts upon normal menstruation. Some congenital anomalies will affect menstruation and reproductive function. These conditions may already be known about during childhood but may also present for the first time during adolescence.

Before commencing this session you should complete the following AH sessions:
- 02_002 Concepts of Puberty (401-0005)
- 02_003 Pubertal Assessment (401-0006)
- 02_004 Psychological Development (401-0007)
