Advanced Life Support (ALS) - Sydney

This ACRRM run and accredited one-day Advanced Life Support (ALS) course was developed to meet the needs of general practitioners in the management of common emergencies in rural practice. The course incorporates key aspects of Advanced Life Support skills in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

The course is conducted by expert instructors experienced in rural general practice.  

Participation is capped at 20 participants for maximum learning benefit from hands-on nature of the course. 

These courses aim to provide participants with the following skills and knowledge:

  • an understanding of, and practical competence in both basic life support (including CPR, etc) and advanced life support with a focus on the issues that a rural practitioner might encounter
  • competence in airway management techniques that include basic airway manoeuvres such as Guedel airway, bag and mask, oxygen therapy, and more advanced airway manoeuvres such as the use of  laryngeal mask or intubation
    • demonstrated ability to efficiently use a manual defibrillator and an automated external defibrillator (AED)
    • demonstrated ability to identify and manage basic life threatening arrhythmias such as VF and VT
    • competence in intravenous and intraosseous access and have understanding of the administration of drugs in resuscitation, in particular the dose and frequency

Additional info

It is mandatory that participants be present for the entire duration of the Advanced Life Support course (8.30am to 5pm local time). Therefore it is highly recommended for interstate travelers to arrive at the course location at least one day prior to the commencement of the course.

If for any reason a participant arrives after the course has commenced or departs before the end of the course, they will be ineligible to receive a Certificate of Attendance or the allocated PDP/QI&CPD points. The participant will be required to re-book which will incur additional charges.
