ALS2: Advanced Life Support Two Day Program

The ALS course is an intensive 2-day course providing a standardised approach to resuscitation in adults. It has been designed for individuals from critical care areas who would be expected to provide advanced life support in an in-hospital or pre-hospital situation. A multidisciplinary team will always attend resuscitation situations so the multidisciplinary nature of the course encourages development of team dynamics in an emergency.

Pre activity

Pre-reading of the 200 page Advanced Life Support Level 2 Third Australian Edition manual with a 120 question MCQ.

Post activity

Scenario-based assessment and 120 question MCQ.

Learning objective

- Causes & Prevention of Cardiac arrest

-> Acute Coronary Syndromes

-> Airway Management

-> Advanced Life Support Algorithm

-> Emergency drugs

-> Initial Resuscitation and Defibrillation

-> Post Resuscitation Care

-> Arterial Blood Gases interpretation

-> Rhythm recognition including 12-lead ECG interpretation

-> Peri-arrest arrhythmias - recognition and treatment

-> Cardiac arrest in Special Circumstances

-> Cardiac Arrest Scenarios

Assessment info

Continuous assessment of:

- ABCDE approach to patient assessment

- Airway Management

- Initial Resuscitation & Defibrillation

Final assessment is based on clinical scenarios and multiple-choice questionnaire.

Additional info

The ALS2 courses are intensive multi-disciplinary, team based teaching and learning educational experiences.

Completion of the course provides Australian Resuscitation Council certification which is valid for up to 4-years.

Eligible for 2 days procedural grant under either the Emergency or Anaesthetics Components
