This session looks at the issues around elderly patients being considered for critical care, including frailty, multimorbidity, polypharmacy, delirium and shared decision-making; what makes a difference to outcomes and setting realistic expectations with families and patients around outcomes.
It looks at decision-making around admissions, ceilings of care and trials of treatment, as well as the role of multidisciplinary team discussion and comprehensive geriatric assessment in expectation-setting and treatment.
