Autism is a neurological condition that can impact a person from childhood, although early detection and intervention can greatly improve quality of life. This education looks at how autism in children can be detected in a general practice setting, common concerns parents may have, and the management options that are available.
On completion of this education activity participants will be able to:
- Recognise the signs of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children and understand behaviours they may engage in.
- Apply screening tools to children with a likelihood of ASD.
- Understand and address parental concerns regarding a child diagnosed with ASD.
- Implement a multidisciplinary care plan and understand the ways that allied health professionals can assist a child with ASD.
