The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at Charles Sturt University is a four-year, full-time program designed to prepare students for professional practice as occupational therapists. Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession focused on enabling individuals, families, and communities to participate in meaningful activities that enhance health, wellbeing, and independence. This program equips graduates with both theoretical knowledge and extensive practical experience, ensuring they are job-ready upon completion.

Students study physiology, anatomy, psychology, sociology, and occupational therapy theory, alongside research and evidence-based practice. The program emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation in healthcare delivery. A distinctive feature is the integration of work-integrated learning, with students completing four supervised placements across diverse settings such as hospitals, community health, disability services, aged care, schools, and mental health facilities. These placements provide over 1,000 hours of professional experience, allowing students to apply classroom learning in real-world contexts.

The course offers flexibility through articulated exit points: students may exit after one year with a Diploma of Health Science or after two years with an Associate Degree in Health Science. An integrated Honours option is available from the third year, allowing academically strong students to pursue advanced research training.

Accreditation is provided by the Occupational Therapy Council of Australia Ltd and the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, with recognition by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists. This ensures graduates are eligible for registration in Australia and recognized internationally. Entry requires a minimum selection rank of 70, with pathways available through direct entry programs and First Nations initiatives.

Career prospects are strong, with occupational therapists in demand across rural, regional, and metropolitan areas. Graduates can work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, aged care, disability services (including NDIS), mental health, and workplace health and safety. Charles Sturt University is ranked #1 in Australia for undergraduate starting salaries, with graduates earning a median of AUD 64,100. With its strong industry connections, supportive learning environment, and emphasis on practical training, the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at CSU provides a comprehensive pathway to a rewarding career in allied health.
