More than one third of Australian women may be affected by some form of urinary incontinence (UI). Participate in this module and refresh your understanding of the best assessment methods and first-line treatment strategies for the management of this condition.

  • By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:
    • Identify risk factors for incontinence that should be considered when assessing pre and postnatal women.
    • Understand the importance of pro-actively assessing pre and postnatal women for bladder and bowel dysfunction.
    • Understand when and how to involve a continence nurse or physiotherapist in the care of a woman with bladder or bowel dysfunction.
    • Identify common pelvic floor conditions that may benefit from referral to a continence nurse or physiotherapist and the evidence to support conservative interventions for incontinence.
    • Identify what supports are available to patients in terms of education and other information about continence.
