This session is the seventh of eight sessions that aims to support your learning about cancer.
Each session is designed for registrants providing general cancer care and aligns with the nursing outcomes included in the RCN Career and Education Framework for Cancer Nursing.
In this session, you will examine compassionate person-centred care, including issues such as shared decision making within clinical assessment and ongoing care. You will also have the opportunity to explore your own leadership, together with the ethical culture that exists within your own practice team.
The session uses real examples of feedback from patients, ethical challenges in cancer and explores your own accountability.
Unlike previous sessions, which have focused on undertaking a clinical assessment in more detail, this session concentrates on your role as part of the multi-professional team. Specifically, in leading the delivery of person-centred, holistic nursing care for your individual patients and their families who are affected by cancer.
The environment that you work in can be challenging, and the session also explores your thoughts and actions on self-compassion to help you look after yourself as well as patients and colleagues.
