This session is the last of eight sessions that aims to support your learning about cancer. Each session is designed for registrants providing general cancer care and aligns with the nursing outcomes included in the RCN Career and Education Framework for Cancer Nursing.
The session focuses on evidence in cancer care - how evidence is developed, how it relates to clinical practice and how it impacts people affected by cancer.
Can you list the different types of areas where evidence might come from?
Evidence includes:
- Research
- Policy
- Clinical experience
- Service user/carer perspectives
- The local clinical practice/context
A systematic approach to gathering and documenting clinical experience, using research, clinical audit and service evaluation, is required to ensure robust evidence.
An important skill for nurses is the ability to critically evaluate the quality of that evidence. This session will provide you with a number of tools to help you develop those evaluation skills as well as looking at how you can support patients involved in clinical trials in cancer care.
