Healthcare is a high-risk sector that requires leadership and guidance in managing health and safety within the workplace.

The workforce regularly faces occupational health and safety issues and yet those who work in healthcare are frequently unfamiliar with OHS* processes. This includes the understanding of exposure to hazards such as occupational violence, bullying, work-related fatigue, patient or client handling, needlestick injuries, cytotoxic drugs or other hazardous chemicals and other everyday risks faced by those who work in the healthcare industry.

The Certificate in IV in Health Work and Safety BSB41419 will enable you to lead, manage and monitor safe work practices across healthcare settings. It can lead to employment as an occupational health and safety officer, OHS technician, WorkCover inspector, or a return-to-work co-ordinator. The ANMF (Vic Branch) Education Centre (RTO ID 22609) is delivering this bespoke course in conjunction with WorkSafe Victoria.

This purpose-built course has been contextualised to reflect the healthcare working environment, preparing graduates for the demands of the sector. This qualification will provide the underpinning knowledge and skills required to manage and monitor safe work practices across healthcare settings. You’ll gain an understanding of the relevant legislation and you will be able to implement workplace strategies to meet and comply with legislative requirements within the workplace. On completion of this course you will have the knowledge and skills to identify hazards and perform risk assessment and risk control through workplace monitoring, this includes ongoing review and evaluation of control measures.

The course embeds the concepts of consultation, cooperation and coordination alongside implementation and monitoring of work health safety (WHS) policies and procedures in the management of all WHS systems. You will also be provided with the opportunity to enhance your ability to assist others with fulfilling their own roles and responsibilities to ensure health and safety in the workplace for everyone. Experienced, well-qualified teaching and support staff, materials ensure a quality course designed specifically for those who work in the healthcare sector.

Please note that for the purpose of discussing current Victorian workplaces the term Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) will be used instead of Work Health and Safety (WHS), or interchangeably. Participants will be introduced to the WHS laws and the state specific OHS laws.

We offer modern facilities and clinical simulation, well-equipped classrooms, computer laboratories and an extensive library ensure a quality course designed specifically for the healthcare sector.
