This course introduces you to some of the key health issues and needs of women in general, and how the rural/regional context may affect management and outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the critical factors which develop a sense of health and wellbeing in rural women.

  • Develop the capacity to respond with sensitivity and empathy to the issues and needs of rural women.

  • Identify particular rural and regional issues affecting cancer management.

  • Understand the role of the primary care practitioner in the screening and assessment of cervical cancer, breast cancer and ovarian cancer

  • Identify potential indicators for intimate partner violence.

  • Describe the characteristics that define effective counselling for persons experiencing intimate partner violence.

  • Ability to quickly assess the type of urinary incontinence

  • Understand the characteristics of osteoporosis specific to rural areas

  • Define the characteristics of an effective partnership between clinician and pregnant client
