This session examines methods for effective and efficient communication between individuals and teams within and across organisations. It highlights the impact on services and patients if communication fails and suggests mechanisms for resolving communication failure. This session supports the development of leadership in clinical settings.

Colin Bicknell,
Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Imperial College London

Colin Bicknell is a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Imperial College London - the largest National referral centre for thoracoabdominal aneurysm surgery and endovascular surgery in the UK.

He has held developmental and organisational positions in the NHS London ’Prepare to Lead’ and ’Darzi Fellow’ leadership schemes. On a national level, has worked as part of a team to define the structure and role of the newly formed National leadership Council, chaired by David Nicholson, Chief Executive of the NHS.

His research interests are primarily the application of novel technologies to improve surgical techniques most notably in the field of endovascular surgery. He has worked with a team at Imperial College exploring the advantages of robotic endovascular catheters in the vascular tree, which has led to initial human trials.
