Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • list the common surgical complications associated with dental implants
  • describe the common restorative complications associated with dental implants
  • explain the principles for successful implant maintenance and follow up

Complications are rare if good treatment planning has taken place and a careful technique has been employed throughout the surgical and prosthodontic stages. Patients should be informed of possible complications particularly if they are at a relatively higher risk.
