Congenital Heart Disease | Acute Presentations in Adult Congenital Heart Disease
This session is aimed at all NHS clinical staff who are not specialists in this subject but may meet acutely unwell adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD) within their field of practice.
Although congenital heart disease (CHD) is a specialised subject, these patients will interact with all other areas of the NHS throughout their lifetime. It is therefore important that all NHS staff are aware of the implications of CHD. All staff need to know when to seek expert advice and how to do that.
This session will be of particular benefit to staff working within primary care and acute care settings.
By the end of this session, you should be able to:
- explain the morbidity and mortality associated with adult congenital heart disease
- appreciate the significance of complex congenital heart conditions in the acutely unwell patient
- demonstrate an understanding of the acutely unwell adult patient with congenital heart disease
- demonstrate the ability to manage the acutely unwell patient with congenital heart disease
- State how and when to seek expert advice
- Hypo- and Hyperglycaemia
