Patients and clinicians are concerned about disease, outcomes of treatment of the disease and then the likely future course of events. This approach to patient care relies on the clinicians’ assessment of prognosis and this session guides you through how you could do this for periodontal disease.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Define prognosis
  • List factors which affect outcomes of periodontal treatments
  • Estimate the influence of these factors in your clinical work

Prognosis attempts to predict the outcome of a disease, the effect of any treatment and therefore the dental future for the patient.
