Type 2 diabetes is a common condition that is managed largely in primary care; the management of type 2 diabetes encompasses much more than glycaemic control.

Patients with type 2 diabetes are at increased risk of macrovascular and microvascular complications, so the management of diabetes is targeted at screening for and preventing these complications which include myocardial infarction, amputation, kidney failure and loss of vision.
