The Diabetes management for health professionals - Webinar Series provides 6 hours of Health Professional Education delivered in three two-hour sessions. It is delivered by a Registered Nurse - Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) and Dietitian from Diabetes Queensland utilising Webinar Conferencing Systems.
Diabetes management for health professionals is for Registered Nurses, Endorsed Enrolled Nurses and Allied Health Professionals working in general practice, aged care, rural health, community and hospitals.
The webinar conferencing system allows the Diabetes management for health professionals program to be shared with locations around Queensland. It provides for real-time multicast communications from Diabetes Queensland to Health Professional registrants.
The program will be broadcast from the Diabetes Queensland training rooms utilising a combination of power point presentations, voice and video chat as well as text based messages to facilitate learning and the development of knowledge and skills.
Once registered, participants will receive a program workbook and a pre-course knowledge questionnaire will be provided on Survey Monkey.
Following the three webinar sessions, participants will complete a post-course knowledge questionnaire and process evaluation before being provided a Certificate of Attendance from Diabetes Queensland.
Diabetes management for health professionals is endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing and offers six Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) points.
- Self-management education: role of the Diabetes Educator, psychosocial issues and counselling for behaviour change
- Basics of diabetes management: pathophysiology, classification and prevention, nutrition, physical activity, clinical monitoring and pharmacology
- Supporting self-management: Self monitoring of blood glucose, managing glycaemic index, school excursions, sick days, individuals role in complication prevention, screening and management.
