This session outlines the financial support available for patients who are nearing the end of life and offers guidance for clinicians who submit medical evidence to support their patients’ claims for benefits.
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- explain the Special Rules for End of Life (SREL) process
- describe the financial support available from the welfare system for people who are nearing the end of life and who are eligible to claim for each benefit type
- discuss how clinicians can support their patients to claim under SREL
- list the information that is most beneficial to include on a medical evidence form, known as the SR1 form
Many people who are nearing the end of life could benefit from financial support from the welfare system.
The Department for Work and Pensions has a fast-track application process in place for people who are nearing the end of life, called the Special Rules for End of Life (SREL) process.
