Spirituality is the dynamic dimension of human life that relates to the way persons (individual and community) experience, express and/or seek meaning, purpose and transcendence, and the way they connect to the moment, to self, to others, to nature, to the significant and/or the sacred [1](read details regarding the reference).
It can be said that every illness has a spiritual dimension and, at some level, every dying person is confronted by questions of meaning, existence and belief when they come into end-of-life care.
It is imperative that those caring for them know how to identify spiritual issues; understand how they may impact on clinical care; recognise when and how to refer appropriately to a religious professional or spiritual care advisor; but also have the skills to offer spiritual care as far as they are personally comfortable.
This session will help to empower you with knowledge and skills to provide truly holistic person-centred care.
