Welcome to the e-Quality Improvement Program for Parkinson's Disease.
For patients with Parkinson’s disease, optimal management relies upon the ability of health professionals to recognise whether symptoms are well controlled, and being aware of what steps should be taken when symptoms are not well controlled.
The aim of this program is to improve management of patients with Parkinson’s disease in primary care, focussing on management of both motor and non-motor symptoms, and recognising the importance of specialist referral.

This is a short questionnaire to reflect upon your current management of Parkinson's disease.
This education module will outline best practice approaches to the identification, diagnosis and management of Parkinson's disease.
Here, the learnings from the education module are then applied directly to patients through a clinical audit. This involves selection of 3 patients in your practice with Parkinson’s disease, who have been prescribed a levodopa-decarboxylase inhibitor combination, with or without another medication.
The patient entry form is to be completed during a patient consultation, which may be undertaken opportunistically as part of usual care or by active recall.
Review and reflect upon the management approaches applied to your 3 patients.

- Apply a systematic approach to recognise and assess motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease.
- Implement an individualised pharmacological and non-pharmacological approach to manage motor and non-motor symptoms of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
- Evaluate gastrointestinal dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease and the management options to alleviate it.
- Establish a management plan for regular review of motor and non-motor symptoms, including specialist referral (where appropriate), to maintain patient quality of life and safety.

Identify patients in your practice who are eligible for inclusion in the clinical audit.
Inclusion criteria: The patients must have a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, and be prescribed a levodopa-decarboxylase inhibitor combination, with or without another medication.
Patients may be recruited opportunistically as you consult appropriate patients as part of usual care, or by active recall. See tips on recruiting patients.
Patient entry – During your next consultation with the eligible patients, complete patient details, including information about current medications and symptom profile.
