Foundational Perspectives of Women’s Health
This unit of study explores the position and role of women from sociological, psychological and political perspectives. By reviewing the issues concerning the position of women, feminism (including the historical and current views) and the discourses surrounding women’s health, the student will have the opportunity to examine issues of access and equity for specific groups of women including women from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Theme 1: Women and society
Review the literature on the historical and current view of the position of women in society
Theme 2: Philosophies surrounding women’s health
Identify issues that may affect access and equity for women including specific groups of women
Theme 3: Women’s health policy
Demonstrate an understanding of the social, political, cultural and environmental determinants that impact on women’s health
Theme 4: Health concerns for specific groups of women
Explore and interpret mental health issues that can affect women across the lifespan
Theme 5: Women and violence
Identify health concerns for specific groups of women including those with a disability
Theme 6: Women's mental health issues
Examine the issues of sexuality and body image across the lifespan.
