The Functional Cognition Model (Allen’s Cognitive Disability Model) aids understanding of the “Can Do” (neurobiological) aspects of human occupational function and allies this with an understanding of the “Will Do” (relevance to the individual) and “May Do” (social and environmental supports).

Therapists strive to find the “best-fit” between the abilities of individuals and the occupational demands of their environment. It identifies changes that can be made so that therapists and carers can assist their client or family member to experience joy and success.

The webinar will cover the following:

  • Brief description and history of the Cognitive Disabilities Model (CDM)
  • Why and How cognition matters to occupational function
  • Definitions of functional cognition in the CDM
  • An introduction to The Allen Levels (ACL)
  • Application to Practice: Activity Analysis and the Cognitive Levels
  • SUITABLE FOR
Suitable for clinicians at any stage of their career

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    Participants will:

    • Be able to understand and describe Functional Cognition/ the Cognitive Disabilities Model
    • Be able to discuss and apply the key concepts and terms
    • Be able to begin to apply these to frame observation and assessment.
