Overview

  • If you are a Registered Nurse working and specialising in rural and remote health, the Graduate Certificate of Health (Scheduled Medicines) is for you.
  • This degree is currently Australia’s only Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)-approved tertiary postgraduate degree that enables you to apply for scheduled medicines endorsement for nursing practice in a rural and isolated practice area.
  • A Rural and Isolated Practice Endorsed Registered Nurse (RIPERN/RIPRN) is authorised to obtain, supply and administer Schedule 2, 3, 4 and 8 medicines, under protocol.
  • Through work-based learning, you'll be equipped with advanced decision making and diagnostic skills to effectively plan the management of patient care (including initiation of medicines). 

Further study

You have the option to take the credit from your studies and go on to complete further study in the Graduate Diploma of Nursing or the Master of Nursing to increase your career opportunities.

Professional accreditation

The Graduate Certificate of Health (Scheduled Medicines) is accredited with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to enable graduates to apply for ‘scheduled medicines endorsement’ through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Entry requirements

  • Completion of an Australian university three year bachelor degree in a health-related field, or equivalent.
  • Must be registered as a nurse in Division One of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and must be able to demonstrate at least one years' full-time clinical experience. Please provide a detailed CV including education, clinical experience, professional development, and full time equivalent for each employer. 
  • USQ requires written confirmation that the applicant is currently practicing as a RN and can complete required hours of clinical mentorship in their workplace.

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
